Homes getting infested by brown rats is a pretty much in-conquerable issue, especially for those residing in urban areas. Though you cannot avoid it, but there is always something that can be done to drive these rodents away from your locality in the most respectful way.
We certainly shall not ask you to hire a bagpiper, but you may want to hire a professional in case you cannot do this alone, or if the squeak of the animal makes you shiver down your spine.
Looking for rat entry holes isn't that hard. You just need to be able to tell apart between the one created by a rat and a weary wall article.
It is always a mistake to believe that rats don't exist in your residence after you have sealed every possible entry. Rodents are smart, which is why they make ideal lab animals.
Entry holes are the commonest means employed by rats to gain an access to your place. Here is how you can chase them:
1. Follow the tracks:
As already mentioned, lab rats are pretty genius animals. They mark tracks to their burrows along the wall side as their visual system is poorly developed. These tracks can also lead you to their home.
2. Inspect the chimney:
A chimney connects your place to the outside, which also makes an ideal access for the rodents. Either they chew into their walls, or gain entrance via the openings already present to extrude the fire smoke to the outside.
3. Check near food stores:
Lab rats tend to occupy a place where there is food in abundance. Hence, in case you suspect the presence of these rodents in your house, check in the cabinets, shelves and cupboards for rat entry holes. Look carefully for nibbled-off walls of these food stores in their deep corners.
4. Follow the rat droppings:
They live at your place, they eat your food and they excrete on your floors too. (Sorry to disgust you). Rat droppings can make useful tracks to lead to their entrances. In case you come across one, search in all directions for further such droppings.
5. Investigate near switch boards:
A weakened wall piece makes it easy for the rats to chew into it. Places on your walls where a switch board is installed can have rat entry holes too. You might not see them on the exterior ones, but they may be present on the ones located behind your television, oven or fridge. Rats bite into places that are not quite open, and deeply situated switch boards make them a favorable entry.
6. Hire a pest controller:
Once in a while, you need to get your home inspected by a professional rodent inspector. The act will ensure you if your home is free of the infestation. In case lab rats are present, the pest controllers will take adequate measures to drive them away from your place without having harmed them.
